Brownie Troop 666

The 2009 Inaugural Brownie Troop Bass Derby is now officially underway. The tournament will run now thru Sunday, October 25 and end at 11:59pm EST. There will be two divisions, one for Largemouth Bass and one for Smallmouth Bass. To register you need to send $10 cash and a standard 4-1/8 in. x 9-1/2 self addressed stamped envelope to Brownie Troop P.O. Box 324 New Hope, PA 18938. In return we will send you an entry number as well as a derby patch which will serve as proof of your registration.

The grand prizes have been donated by Shimano Fishing Corporation, a beautiful Citica Casting combo with Compre Rod for the winner of the Largemouth division, and and an awesome Sahara spinning outfit with Compre Rod for the winner of the Smallie division.

Total weight of your fish will be determined by using the standard weight calculator for Bass:

length x length x girth divided by 1,200=weight

Hopefully this won’t be too complicated for most of you. We are doing it this way to encourage catch and release. There is a gentlemanly aspect to this derby, we trust that none of you will cheat. You must photograph your fish laid up against a tape measure clearly showing the length and girth, and get your patch in the photo too as well. We are creating a forum for the fishing derby which can be found at http://brownietroop.ning.com We highly encourage you to post pictures and comments in this thread. The last derby was a huge success and we hope this one is even better. All fish must be landed using rod and reel.

All photographs must be mailed to vealmarsala@gmail.com to qualify. Good luck out there!

Trolling in a Brownie Troop Bass Derby may be lame to you and zippy, it sure seems fine with everyone else including the man in charge. I have had an unbelievable time fishing with FFG. Total opposite of lame.

All jokes aside, there is nothing wrong with the way you guys fish, and I don't want to knock any type of fishing. I have just been really surprised how unsportsmanlike Zippy has been about losing this derby. SORE LOSER. Where I am from, to be a sore loser is to be a pussy.

No, we didn't get any props from the Captain, if that's what you mean ffg.

I still think that trolling on a sunday with the kids = great fun for the whole family, and a valid fishing technique. Trolling in a bass tournament = lame.

chum, I agree that when trolling you want heavy gear because who know's what you're going to catch. But when you're not trolling you're typically targeting one or two species with the gear you have on, a trout setup is very different than a muskie setup.
I think all that zip was trying to say was that one of those gigantic smallies on a light gear setup would be the $hit, having access to those fish and only trolling for them just doesn't seem right. Actually feeling the fish take the lure, setting the hook, and fighting the fish is what the sport of fishing is all about...and doing that with as light of gear as possible just makes it all the better.

now that the bass derby is over, this thread has turned into the trash talking derby. we could switch it up where every thing anyone says has to be a "yo mama" joke

"yo mama uses a trolling motor as a viberator"

" yo mama's ass is so big, she uses a floatie tube as a toilet cushion "

You don't really want lighter gear when you could be hooking up with a 50"+ Muskie (or a 30lb. Trout or Walleye for that matter) at any moment. Zippy, you guys just stick to floating around your serene little Pike pond throwing the "bass professor's" Fishing Snake and leave the heavier gear to those who are able to handle it.

Just what you needed FFG - another Giant Ego Massage,

Learn how to catch those fish on lighter gear; you will be glad you did........

Just got back from the travel day from hell, gettin' up at 6am to fish the ocean for Stripers. I hope everyone knows I have nothing against trolling for Bass. The fish that FFG catches are about as big as any Smallies I've ever seen anywhere and if we had that class of fish in our area I'd be trolling them up for damn sure. The only issue I have with FFG is that we never had a chance against him, and I'm very competitive and hate to lose at anything. :)
