it is with great shame that today we announce to you the most unprestigious of all fishing derbies, the inaugural brownie troop "freshwater shit fishing derby". This event will take place nationwide and the entry process and rules are as follows:
each entrant must mail 10 dollars of u.s. cash to:
brownie troop fishing show
p.o. box 324
new hope, pa
18938
each entrant will then receive a custom BTFS tape measure via the u.s. mail, your ten dollars covers the cost of the tape measure and postage. The tape measure is nice, it is a 5 foot tape housed in a lovely plastic 3x2 case with our logo on the side. All fish must be photographed with the BTFS tape measure clearly in the frame. Fish will not be judged by weight, only by length alone, any entries not measured with your hand numbered tape will be disqualified. This is to discourage the killing of fish by bringing them to a tackle shop for weigh-ins. There is no reason to trust any of the entrants, myself included, but cheating is discouraged. All fish pictures must be mailed to vealmarsala@gmail.com, although we are starting a forum specifically for this event which can viewed at:
http://brownietroop.ning.com
posting to the derby thread is highly encouraged.
the following fish will be recognized by the governing body (me) as follows:
Sunfish/Bluegill/Perch/Crappie/Rock Bass
Catfish, any species.
Carp
the trophies will be presented as follows:
largest in class (3 seperate trophies)
largest fish overall (wins the grand prize--a brand new Zebco rod and reel combo with hook and bobber starter kit.)
Fishing is unlimited to any body of water of your choosing. There are no restrictions on bait, tackle, or method of fishing. If you want to noodle in a 100lb catfish, then that is your right. The contest will begin upon receipt of your tape measure and end on October 12, 2008. No more entries will be accepted after September 26. the contest will be limited to 200 entrants, the amount of monogrammed tape measures I had printed. Join today, and be a part of the most shameful fishing derby known to mankind.
I saw a report that they found a retention pond in Kansas stocked with over 200 snakeheads. These fish can survive out of water for up to four days and they walk on land! Two weeks ago, a male, a female, and 250 spawn were found in a puddle of water under a tree in Maryland, surely on a trek to a new body of water for them to invade. Soon they will be everywhere! We must find them and slaughter them! To catch; use steel leaders with artificial frogs or mice for bait. You can see their heads poking around in the shallow weeds, cast for those spots (try not to get snagged). The Snakeheads will strike multiple times at the same bait and fight like a pit-bull once hooked. CAUTION! A BIG SNAKE HEAD COULD TAKE A FINGER OFF OF YOUR HAND! To kil; you must stab the body over and over repeatedly, as the skull is too tough to stab through! Fish On!

We just had our first snakehead sighting recently up here... Not in my lake but they are moving north. They are ugly looking.

Rob - Those fuckers are ugly! I haven't caught one of those but I've caught some king salmon this summer with lamprey eels. They are nuts. They'll stick to anything in a matter of seconds, your leg, your hand, your balls if your not watching.
This sight will be bigger and cooler then Bass Barn before you know it. Viva la Brownie Barn!

Obsession is right ! I just poked my nose back here, just to see if any thing is going on. There is no one I would have rather found lurking about than you Rob. Im going fishing for a bit today, I'll be thinking of you all !
Did y'all see that Mickey's gonna make a permanent sight on ning for all us Brownie Troopers to keep posting on? This Troop is getting stronger everyday. I'm sure that keeping the channels of communication open will solidify the bonds made during this derby. I'm looking forward to reading more posts from Ben, Jim, Mack, and even Mickey. We never have to let go of this obsession! I'm sure I'll be very active on the new sight as I have a new target fish. The Northern Snakehead Fish has infiltrated the Potomac River and it's surrounding tributaries. They are strictly catch and kill and I can't wait to post some pics for y'all! Oh yeah, don't forget to thank your wife if you have one.
So I decided to skip work and go fishing out in the lake here today. I cant resist. If theres a boat about to hit water, then I'm on it. It was choppy as shit today. I felt like that boat was beating me in the guts every time we would come down hard on a roller. Caught some Redfish,a Drum, and a keeper-Croaker. Also some slimy shitty little cats, couple of stingrays all on dead shrimp under a poppin-cork.

JimBass, nice post and awesome pics.
This contest reminded me that catfishing is fun. It's been at least 20 years since I've even bothered.
I'm already hunting holes for next year!!
