THE INAUGURAL BROWNIE TROOP SHIT FISHING DERBY (Now extended to Sun. 10/12)

it is with great shame that today we announce to you the most unprestigious of all fishing derbies, the inaugural brownie troop "freshwater shit fishing derby". This event will take place nationwide and the entry process and rules are as follows:

each entrant must mail 10 dollars of u.s. cash to:

brownie troop fishing show
p.o. box 324
new hope, pa
18938

each entrant will then receive a custom BTFS tape measure via the u.s. mail, your ten dollars covers the cost of the tape measure and postage. The tape measure is nice, it is a 5 foot tape housed in a lovely plastic 3x2 case with our logo on the side. All fish must be photographed with the BTFS tape measure clearly in the frame. Fish will not be judged by weight, only by length alone, any entries not measured with your hand numbered tape will be disqualified. This is to discourage the killing of fish by bringing them to a tackle shop for weigh-ins. There is no reason to trust any of the entrants, myself included, but cheating is discouraged. All fish pictures must be mailed to vealmarsala@gmail.com, although we are starting a forum specifically for this event which can viewed at:

http://brownietroop.ning.com
posting to the derby thread is highly encouraged.

the following fish will be recognized by the governing body (me) as follows:

Sunfish/Bluegill/Perch/Crappie/Rock Bass
Catfish, any species.
Carp

the trophies will be presented as follows:
largest in class (3 seperate trophies)
largest fish overall (wins the grand prize--a brand new Zebco rod and reel combo with hook and bobber starter kit.)

Fishing is unlimited to any body of water of your choosing. There are no restrictions on bait, tackle, or method of fishing. If you want to noodle in a 100lb catfish, then that is your right. The contest will begin upon receipt of your tape measure and end on October 12, 2008. No more entries will be accepted after September 26. the contest will be limited to 200 entrants, the amount of monogrammed tape measures I had printed. Join today, and be a part of the most shameful fishing derby known to mankind.

That is some cool shit. I'm sure I'll give it a shot if I ever catch a fish again.

Awesome image and detail for your first attempt, Ben! The scales and fins look great. I'm going to try this...what kind of paint did you use?

I sent a couple of pics of fish artwork out to a few of you guys. Some of it got me interested, so I thought I'd give it a go today. I fished the millpond dam for Bass and Bluegill, and I caught a few Largemouth. I was hoping for something a little rounder, But this is the fish I used as my experiment. Its called Gyotaku, and it was popular in Japan in the mid-1800s, as a way for fishermen to prove the size of their daily catch (must have been before tape measures and digital cameras ) Catch a fish. Slop a bunch of paint on him. Place a piece of paper on the painted side, and press down a bit. This was my first try. It was harded than I thought it would be, what with the fish flipping all over the fucking place. A light rain has moved into the area. Thats usually good for largemouth bass fishing, but it fucks painting up. I got some colored paint too, I'll try that tommrow. You guys are losing me on the ocean fishing. Its a two day drive to the beach from my house!

Jim, those fish on your page are amazing! ...or you could be an incredibly tiny man? Regardless, they are beautiful fish. 50lb.?

There really is nothing like thrownin' a plug out into a bunch of bait fish that are being worked by some stripers or blues. As soon as that plug hits the water, hold on cause its awesome. Thats how I caught those two cows on my page. Everyone around me was snagin' bunker, why not imitate one floundering on the surface. That was the ticket. Have fun. Maybe I'll see you from my boat on Sunday.

Righteous,
i was just reading the fishing reports for IBSP. They were saying plugs and clams where having the best luck with the stripers. I'll throw a high/low rig out w/ clams and maybe a mullet rig and see what happens. While those rods are busy sitting on the ocean ground, i'll plug away. I never caught anything on a plug, YET.
