sunny florida
well i figured i'd take some time to update this site, the wind has been howling down here in south florida at 30 mph for the past two days making any chance of fishing impossible. i'm on a radically different schedule down here, going to bed every night around 9pm and waking up at 5am. i've been hitting the beach and fishing until sunrise and i dig it. been a long time since i've seen this much of the morning. fishing pressure has been really good, as you would expect down here. the first morning down here i fished the front beach on the outgoing tide and caught some blue runners and a pompano, not bad but a little smaller than what i was hoping for. the second day i fished the seawall and landed a sheepshead and some catfish, again, not really the monsters i was after but still nice to have a bend in the rod. finally i got out on the water in my father in-law's 21 foot center console boat and we encountered acres and acres of birds and exploding water--blitzing fish. they were spanish mackerel and they spanned the horizon as far as the eye could see and it lasted all day. i managed to snap some pictures although the action was too hot to stop and relax. if only the wind would die down we could get back out, i have a feeling that they're gonna be there all week; eating mackerel is like eating cat food though, not for me. later this week we're gonna go out and fish the weed lines looking for some dorado (dolphin), my favorite eating fish. i'm gonna turn into a fat-ass down here, eating 3 big meals a day like a normal human being. been playing some pretty good golf, i maybe got in like 6 rounds last year, tops, and of course the time off seems to have helped my swing immensely. i posted 3 birdies in my first round on my way to a lousy 93. i took an 11 on the second hole of the day and also had a bunch of 7's. overall i'm striking the ball pretty well and my short game is miraculously intact. i have a 1pm tee time today, should be fun in the 30mph winds. i dunno why anyone would read this, some dude talking about his golf game. anyway, i managed to catch tiger's final round at bay hill this past weekend, words can't really describe what that guy is doing right now. there's no precedent for it, he's playing a different game than everybody else. i knew that putt on 18 was going in, arnie knew it was going in, bart bryant knew it was going in, so did tiger. that putt would've been the highlight on any golfer's career but for tiger it was just business as usual. unfuckingreal. i just posted the remaining american tourdates to ween.com yesterday, we'll be mopping up so to speak. i don't know yet if that's gonna be it for the la cucaracha tour or not as of yet, we'll see what other options are available to us and then make our decision i guess. i'm starting to feel inspired to write again so maybe we'll just get back into the studio, i dunno yet. by the time i get home the stripers should be making their spring run, and anyone who has offered to take me out on a boat, well i wanna call those offers in now. i'll be doing a lot of fishing from the surf, but i'll always welcome the offer to get out on the water and chase old linesides around. apparently there are bunker all over the jersey beaches right now so it's just a matter of time until things explode, i'll check back later, the Flyers are on national tv tonight. Oh yeah, and anyone in the w. palm beach area that has sharp saltwater fishing chops, drop me a line.
