I mainly fish (freshwater) by the Jackson/Howell/Brick/ Forked River/Waretown areas and saltwater fish Seaside Park/ LBI/ Barnegat Bay. Any hole I can find will do for freshwater. The tiniest detention pond to large lakes and reservoirs. I like to fish Manasquan Reservoir a lot in my yak. It's really beautiful over there. I know a lot of guys bitch about that place but I think it's fun and the challenge is always there. I don't need to catch a 10 to 15 bass to make it a worthy trip. Gimme a few blue gill, perch and a couple pound bass and I'm set for the day. It's the piece of mind you get paddling quietly into some wildlife's ecosystem. You become emersed in their world for a bit, just above the surface. I like I trying to read the terrain along the shore line and then follow it through the shallows towards the deeper areas. You really can't predict logs, fallen trees, and rocks without the use of electronics or previous experience but the lay of the land helps map out what's below. I'm heading out to Montauk, NY this weekend to do some surf fishing. I hope to hit a grand slam! Striper, Blue, Weak Fish and Fluke! I'm dreaming but it's possible. Good luck in Alaska!

Hey Cake.

Tips for Alaska:

1. have a wealthy father to secure 5 star accommodations and charter the best guide in Sitka. http://www.questalaskalodges.com/ I believe the captains name is Bill Huntington. He was phenomenal.

2. the salmon fishing was mostly a waiting game. once they came alive, they were biting assorted spoons, plugs, and cut bait on the troll. kings are the best fighting fish i've ever battled. jumps and runs, but never lasting more than 5 minutes or so. short and sweet.

3. the key to the halibut was to keep the jigging spoons right near the bottom, which was difficult given the depths and the swells of the sea. we got our keepers by drifting along a submerged hill which rose from 200 feet up to 150 feet. don't be afraid to snag. we had a monster on that snapped a 10/0 hook in half. hold on!

Tetonia is in Teton Valley in S.E. Idaho near the town of Driggs, on the west slope of the Tetons. We get browns in the S.Fork of the Snake along with cutthroats and rainbows. I haven't caught any nearly as big as that one you got. Holy shit! Let me know if you're ever in the area. Fish on!

fc...i work at a small inn. i do everything there is to do in that building. every night we serve beer/wine tasting with appetizers to our guests. it's cool. people come from all over to ski, snowboard, hike, fish, shop, whitewater raft, mountain bike/climb...whatever. i get to do all that on my time off and talk about it all night at work. i haven't heard of the gray lodge...i'll have to check it out. do they bottle their beer?

Hey Fishcake, Good luck on opening day! The first day of fishing in vermont is april 11th, but I'll be in Pulaski,NY for this weekend trying to tag some steelhead! As for the first river to put in, I think it will be a lake, so I can paddle around and get a feel for the boat, then I'll hit up the rivers! That boat is awesome, I can put a 6-8hp motor on that beast as well as a trolling motor for stillwater action and shoot the shoots on any river as it is rated for class IV and V rapids!, I dont know if i'll ever bring it into big water rapids though! The opportunities are endless anyway ! I can't wait to float!
