I have been mostly Bass fishing for the derby lately. I love fishing for the cats though. I caught that big Channel on a spinnerbait fishing for Bass in a 10 acre pond. You can go there with live or cut bait and catch 'em all day. I'm rocking out with the melvins on your page. nice.

nice cats man!!!! i spend some time each summer fishing those elusive bastards on the st. croix near the town of floodwood. it's my favorite type of fishing. we attack from shore.......set up a campsite, throw the stankiest thing we can get on the bottom, sip a few grain belts and let the good times roll. a few of my buddies just went out and caught a bunch of tullibee this past weekend. we take the guts out of them and freeze them for summer cat fishing. can't wait for the thaw to get after them again!!!

That sucks about your buddies boat. You're definitely lucky it wasn't worse. Shallow water = danger town. I experience it in the bay all the time. thankfully my boat drafts 6 in. so I can go almost everywhere. No rocks to worry about just sand bars. If I can't see the white water created by a sand bar, I've got problems. Thats why I've got the pole on the boat, makes it easier to get into the tight spots when baitfish cram in a shallow cove.

What's goin on Rob? I thought you'd have the derby in the bag by now? I'm not killin' em like I do in saltwater. I'm having blast though. I can't get enough.

Thanks Rob. Those two were caught on a 6" popper in the ocean about 200 yards from the beach off a boat. They were pounding bunker at the surface so we tried mimicking them with the poppers. Wham! both those butes nailed the popper and went straight up in the air a foot and half out of the water. Shit was awesome. They are my favorite to catch.
Cant' wait to see what you catch for the derby. Good Luck. James

Hey Rob - NICE Cats man! Great job! I know we can't touch you with fish like that. Up in Jerz, we get some big ones but not like that. Thats great man good luck to you. I hope to get on the board with class A and B. We'll see, I'm mainly a saltwater fisherman if you can't tell by the pics. Later man.
